Geology is at the core of Bridget Macklin’s ceramics practice. Working with porcelain she makes hand-built vessels using slabs and flattened coils, mixing found materials into the clay and scraping back to reveal fantastic and colourful strata. Bridget delights in the repeated refining of her pieces: revelling in the challenge of taking risks with the materials, and constantly striving to make the most lustrous pieces which only reveal their full nature on close inspection.
The interior of each piece tells a little more of the story. Sometimes Bridget incorporates drawings, maps and even hand-written notes, which hint at a place or time of significance.
Bridget makes vessels, lighting and art installations that respond to specific locations. She is very happy to discuss commissions.
