Clare Edwards not only runs Design-Nation, but also leads NK Arts Partnership, a multi-disciplinary consortium in the East Midlands comprises Design-Nation, Design Factory, The National Centre for Craft & Design and artsNK. Clare is an accomplished and passionate arts administrator, adept at juggling the needs of the diverse audiences and creative practitioners that these organisations serve, as well as leading on liaison with the portfolio’s key funders, North Kesteven District Council and Arts Council England. Clare is also currently an active member of Lincolnshire One Venues (LOV), East Midlands Visual Arts Network (EMVAN), Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN) and UK Design Alliance.
NCCD is the largest venue in England dedicated to the celebration, support and promotion of national and international contemporary craft and design. Over the last five years, Clare has successfully built the organisation and venue to achieve unprecedented targets, increasing participation and engagement in contemporary craft and design through a dynamic programme of high quality exhibitions, participatory learning, events and retail.
Bringing together Design-Nation, Design Factory and NCCD, Clare has created a new significant home for British craft and design and created a strong portfolio of organisations that lead across the UK and international craft and design sectors.
Prior to taking up her current role in 2011, Clare founded and ran Design Factory from its inception in 2005. Design Factory is one of the leading creative agencies in the UK, internationally renowned for its promotion, support and development of excellent craft and design practice and was founded though investment generated from European Regional Development Fund, UK Trade & Investment and British Council.
Clare has successfully built reputable networks, tailor-made programmes and professional teams that artistically and commercially support and develop innovative and entrepreneurial talent at all stages across craft and design practice, delivered through the portfolio. This range of bespoke projects and programmes challenge creative practitioners to increase their ambition, explore new ideas and opportunities and develop skills and practice, across commissions, collaborations and cultural exchanges.
